Quadruple Amputee Dog Receives Life-Changing Prosthetics

This story went viral – and we know why! Brutus, an adorable Rottie, was left outside by a breeder when he was a puppy, causing frostbite on his paws. Because of the frostbite, he had to get his paws removed. After this pup became a quadruple amputee, Laura Aquilina rescued him from his breeder and got him fitted for prosthetics. Now, 2-year old Brutus is able to do anything he wants, thanks to these prosthetics. Bring us the tissues!

Doesn’t Brutus look so happy?!

Abandoned Kitten and Puppy Become Best Friends Despite All Odds

Who says cats and dogs can’t get along?! Chip, a five week old Chihuahua puppy, and Adele, a four week old kitten, found themselves at a no-kill shelter in Texas, Operation Kindness. The two were paired together at the shelter in March and became friends instantly. We’re pretty much obsessed with these two best buds and we hope that they get homes soon (or maybe even a home together!)! These are a few of our favorite pics of this dynamic duo.

Why Doesn’t Anybody Want Me? Heart-Melting Photo Leads to Shelter Dog’s Adoption

Whether some believe it or not, social media can get the ball rolling – in Chester’s, the older (believed to be 7-9) pit bull or pitty mix, case, it gave him a home. Chester had been in the caring hands of a New York animal shelter for 5 years, and had been overlooked too many times that the shelter wanted to do something more about it. Joining forces with an animal shelter promoter, the shelter posted a picture of Chester on Facebook with the accompanying message: “Why doesn’t anybody want me? I’ve been waiting for 5 years. Everyone at the shelter tells me what a good boy I am. So why has no one adopted me? I promise to be good and love my new family. Please, maybe you are my new family. I sit and wait for you to come.” Soon after the picture had been posted, it went crazy viral and caught Dana Dor’s eye, who then took her family to the shelter to meet Chester. The Dor family fell in love in with Chester in an instant and now he is living in a happy home. Moral of the story? Adopt, don’t shop!

Golden Retriever Caught Not Being Able to Catch

Oh Fritz, we feel for ya. This adorably awesome Golden Retriever is having some serious issues trying to catch any food that gets thrown at him! We feel your pain Fritz – pretty sure it would be hard for any human to catch food that was thrown at us, too! Oh wait – Buzzfeed did that! Check out the clip for yourself below to see Fritz’s laughable problems.

‘PooPrints’ DNA Test Traces Illicit Droppings Back to Owner

People that refuse to pick up their dogs’ feces, beware – you may get caught AND be fined!  Here’s the deal: bigger cities in the US are encouraging people to enroll their pups in a DNA-testing program that will be able to determine who refused to pick up their dog’s poop. This test includes “an inner cheek swab administered to a tenant’s dog after he moves into the building. The dog receives a number, which is added to a database. When the property managers spot rogue poops littering the area around the building, they can easily send a sample of the poop to a lab, where the culprit is identified in anywhere from 10 to 14 days.” What happens to the “poop”-ertrators? A fine that could cost you $100+. Moral of this story? Clean up your dog’s poop!!!

Newsworthy Dogs Roundup

Now that we’re in 2015 and all done with the holidays, we thought we’d reintroduce the Newsworthy Dogs Roundup! A lot has been going on in the last few weeks – here are a few of our favorite articles. Have any pet-related stories you’d like to share with us? Post the stories on our Facebook page!

The 3 Surprising Ways ‘Pet Parents’ are Treating their Pets Like Humans

We’ve always said dogs are just like humans – why not treat your pup like a human? More and more pet parents are going above and beyond for their pups, and we think it’s great. What are these three surprising ways? First, they are purchasing “people quality” food (we’ve been doing this for years at Muttropolis!), second, they are securing the best doggie care (of course!) and last, they style and frequently groom their pets (no brainer!). Clearly the Huffington Post hasn’t met Muttropolis yet!

21 Puppies Who Will Get You Through Today

One thing we can all agree on is the fact that puppies are pretty much the cutest things on the planet. What’s better than looking at 21 of the most adorable puppy photos? We have this Cute Dogalbum bookmarked to cheer us up anytime we’re down! I mean, how can you pick a favorite?!

Daily Treat: Boston Terrier Nurses Orphaned Kittens

This is truly amazing. A Boston Terrier, Memory, decided to play the role of “mom” to 4 orphaned kittens that were found out in the cold. Although Memory was not pregnant, she was able to produce milk for the kittens. What makes this story sweeter? Once the kittens were nourished from Memory’s milk and moved to solid food, three of the four were able to be adopted out to happy families, while keeping one for Memory to nurture.

Before and After Photos of Rescued Dogs Show What a Difference a Home Makesbefore

Bring on the tears! We are pro-adoption, and this set of pictures just shows one of the many reasons why we feel it is important to adopt. These sweet photos show how adoptables looked before and after they were found a loving home. As you can clearly see, these animals are so happy after being settled in with their loving parents. Adopt, don’t shop!

Canine Commuter Raises Eyebrows on Seattle Bus

This may be our favorite story from the past few weeks. 2-year old black lab Eclipse is not only the cutest lil’ thing, but she is a true city commuter! After going on the bus plenty of times with her dad to visit the dog park, she decided to start traveling to the park on her own (Dad follows a few buses behind her and they travel back home together). What a smart pup!

Halloween LOLz: Our Favorite Dog Halloween Costumes!

Ah, Halloween! It’s the one day each year where scaring people, getting a sugar high and dressing up in a costume is socially acceptable. Dogs do the first two things on a daily basis, and when it comes to October, the third thing is taken to a whole new level. If you didn’t know, dressing your pup up in a Halloween costume is totally a “thing” and people pull out ALL the stops. Need a visual? We’ve got 10 for ya.

Newsworthy Dogs Roundup

We have quite a few stories revolving around dogs this month! We love seeing dogs in the news, whether it be something hilarious, an interesting new study or something that’s sure to bring the tears. Have any pet-related stories you’d like to share with us? Post the stories on our Facebook page!

Your Pet Might be Peeved! Study Finds that Dogs Get Jealous Too

Well this explains a lot! Researchers at UC San Diego (right in our backyard!) conducted a study determining whether or not dogs have a sense of jealousy. 36 dogs and their owners were used in the study that consisted of noting dogs’ reactions of their owners petting animated toy dogs. The results are not surprising – dogs DO get jealous! Once the pups would see their owners petting the toy, they would try to break the connection between the owner and the toy. Just another way that dogs are like humans!

These Two Dogs Got Married and the Whole Thing is Straight out of Your Pinterest Wedding Board

Bring on the LOL’s! Hudson and Chelsea, two Dachshunds whose parents are good friends, had a wedding. Sounds cute, Hudson and Chelsearight? Be prepared for nothing that you’d expect, as these two were given the true Pinterest wedding treatment, from beautifully illustrated invitations to fabulous floral arrangements to a Bulldog officiate. If only we were invited to this wedding!

Missing Pennsylvania Dog Found 3,000 Miles Away from Home

Could you imagine getting a call that your lost pup was found 3,000 miles away?! The owner of 7-year old Jack Russell Terrier Gidget probably didn’t. Gidget had been missing from the owner’s house in Pennsylvania since late April and was found walking the suburbs of Portland in September. When Gidget was brought to the nearest shelter, they were able to determine through a microchip that she came from right outside of Philadelphia! No one really knows how or why Gidget was taken cross-country, but all that matters now is that she is found.

Life for Regular People vs. Life for Dog People

Dog LoveBuzzfeed has nailed it again with this photo comparison between life with a dog and life without. I’m sure you can all guess which life seems more fun and exciting. :)

Susie the Therapy Dog, Abused as a Puppy, Named Hero Dog of the Year

This one is a tearjerker for all the right reasons. Meet Susie, an adorable pit-bull mix that was beat and set on fire by her owner in 2009 after licking (also known as KISSING in dog speak) the owner’s child. This sweet baby suffered third-degree burns and her ears were burned off. Before you start crying out of sadness, let’s fast-forward to Susie’s recovery and an adoption by Donna Lawrence. Lawrence adopted Susie less than a year after she herself had been brutally attacked by a neglected pit bull, which Suziecaused her to lose her ability to have kids. Lawrence and Susie were meant to be, as they both learned to trust one another. Susie is now a therapy dog that helps people that have been through traumatic events and has even helped create stronger anti-cruelty laws in her home state of North Carolina (along with Lawrence, of course!).

Watch this Excited Dog Faint after Being Reunited with her Owner

Remember what it’s like to reunite with your best friend after summer vacation? Imagine that feeling multiplied by 2 years (which is 14 years in a dog’s mind!)! Rebecca Ehalt hadn’t seen her 9-year-old Schnauzer, Casey, in 2 years, and when they were reunited it was complete madness on both ends. What follows after the initial meeting is what you’d least expect – Casey fainted! Check out the video captured by Ehalt’s family. Of course Casey’s family took her to the vet and she was fine – just overly excited to see her mom! Too cute! Click here to watch the video!

I Died Today. By, Duke Roberts

BRB while we get this tissues. This is the story of Duke Roberts, a rescue pup who had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma and hemangiosarcoma, which caused an amputated leg and a growing tumor. When the time came to say goodbye to Dukey, photographer Robyn Arouty decided to document the day, filled with Dukey eating hamburgers, playing in the water and saying goodbye to his friends and loved ones. It’s a sad story, but you can’t help but smile when you see how happy Dukey is to be enjoying life and be with his favorite people in the world.  Give your pup some extra love tonight on behalf of lil’ Dukey.

This Baby and Pit Bull Puppy are Best Friends and it’s the Cutest Thing You’ll See Today

This dynamic duo is sure to make anyone feel happy! Meet 10-week old baby Eisleigh and 8-week old puppy Clyde. They are true BFF’s – they sleep together, laugh together, play together, and all-around enjoy each other’s company. Aren’t they the cutest? We can’t wait to see this friendship blossom as they both get older!

Dogs Find Newborn Baby Abandoned by Side of Road

Everyone knows that a dog’s sense of smell is one of their greatest attributes, but could you imagine your pup’s smell leading you to a newborn? Jeff Kopp was taking his pup, Bobby, out for a walk when Bobby started walking in a different direction than their normal route. Sure enough, Bobby led Kopp to an hours-old baby girl, with its umbilical cord still attached. Kopp’s wife and daughter rushed to wrap up the baby while waiting for the paramedics to arrive. The teen mother has been located and is going through a serious medical evaluation. The moral of the story: thank God for dogs and their sense of smell.

Deaf, Formerly Mistreated Pup is so Happy in New Home He Wags His Tail in Delight as He Sleeps

Alas, we saved the best (and happiest!) for last. This video features Frank, a 1 ½ year old Dachshund that was adopted at 5 months old. Frank was neglected by his last owner, being kept outside in a small spot and eating only adult dog food while living with a constant fear of shadows. Once Rafael Borges adopted Frank and gave him the love (and home) he deserved, Frank became a completely different pup and loves life. It’s clear to see how happy Frank is in this video that features his tail wagging while he’s sleeping. It’s amazing how the love you give an animal can affect them for the better.

This article is four words: adorbs to the max. Our friends over at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park document this precious play date between an 8 week old puppy, Raina, and a 7 week old cheetah, Ruuxa. Raina was brought in to be a friend to Ruuxa, a lone cub who was rejected by his mother, and to also calm down the cheetah and teach him that there’s nothing scary in its public surroundings. We can’t wait to see this friendship between Raina and Ruuxa build!

This 9-Year-Old Built a Nonprofit, No-Kill Animal Shelter Out of His Garage to Help Stray Animals.

This story is truly inspiring. Ken, a 9 year old from the Philippines, wanted to help local stray dogs and cats in his neighborhood and creating a safe place for them to live in was his dream. That dream came sooner than expected, when pictures of Ken feeding some stray animals floated around the internet. Once people saw this picture, they donated money to Ken and he was able to raise enough money to pay for quality food, vet bills and lease a space for a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. Ken is an inspiration to all of us and we are proud of him and all that he continues to do. Go Ken!

In the News: Dogs on Deployment

Dogs on Deployment

When we stumbled across this site we just had to share!

Have you heard of Dogs on Deployment? We hadn't either until recently. Last fall Queen Latifah teamed up with them to share with the world just how powerful this program can impact a soldier and their pet. Watch a reunion unfold, but we forewarned, you may need a tissue.

Dogs on Deployment is an online listing resource and network for military members to search for volunteers who are willing to board their pets while they’re deployed. It’s a fantastic non-profit organization established to give military men and women peace of mind about the well-being of their pets while they are away, bravely serving our country. But it’s not just the servicemen and women that Dogs on Deployment has in mind, it’s their pets too. Pets are provided a safe and loving environment, making their transition and time separated from their owner as seamless as possible.

Dogs and Owners

If you’re a pet parent, you know the angst that can surround spending time away from your four-legged family members, for both you and your pet. Looking for a suitable sitter for a few days or even a week can be a struggle, so you could only imagine what many military individuals face when they’re deployed. We’re so happy that Dogs on Deployment was established to aid in that time of need. They’re promoting responsible pet-ownership and shedding light on the military pet community by providing this online resource. A heart-warming and truly remarkable offering and mission!

If you’re interested in learning more about supporting our troops by boarding a military pet, you can search for pets in need on the Dogs on Deployment website. If you are a military individual who will need to find a safe and loving temporary home for your pet, or you know a fellow serviceman or woman who could benefit from Dogs on Deployment, search for a boarder in your area.

Can’t Wag Without

An insider’s look at what Muttropolis dogs can’t wag without.

Meet Gatsby, a Boxer rescue, and his proud Mama Ria, a member of the Muttropolis pack. Gatsby was adopted in July of last year weighing in at a measly 57 pounds and suffering from pnemonia. Ria came to Gatsby’s rescue and now he is a very healthy and happy 71 pounds. He is spoiled with the luxuries of being a Muttropolis pup, acting as a “product tester” of sorts, but Ria can attest that if she really wants to get Gatsby’s tail wagging, she must turn to a few of his favorite things.

Gatsby + Ria

Plato Thinkers + Tucker’s Chicken Breast with Bacon

Plato Thinkers Dog Treat SticksGatsby is hooked on the ginkgo baloba in these so called “Smart Dog Snacks,” the Duck variety being his favorite. Plato Thinkers are made from only all-natural and organic ingredients, they are fortified with antioxidant vitamins, a great source of iron, and with ginkgo biloba they even nourish brain function. Watch out Ria, Gatsby may start outsmarting you with these in his daily diet!

Tucker’s Chicken Breast Dog Treats also get Gatsby’s tail wagging. Gatsby gets to enjoy these when he deserves something decadent, and according to Ria that’s more often than not! His favorite flavor is made with just two simple ingredients, human grade chicken wrapped in bacon. Yum yum.

Fleece Stick Animals + Talking Toys

Being a big boy, Gatsby generally gravitates towards larger dog toys. Currently he can’t get enough of his Huge Monkey Stick Dog Toy. Fun to carry around and cuddle up with, Gatsby’s monkey is never far from him, even when he’s playing outside. Gatsby also gets a kick out of talking toys. When Ria gives them a sound activating squeeze, Gatsby perks up and leaps to play.

Huge Monkey Stick Dog Toy

The One & Only Katie Puff Bed

Plush Companion Katie Puff Dog BedAt the end of each day, or simply when Ria is away, Gatsby loves to cuddle up in his Animals Matter Plush Companion Katie Puff Dog Bed. Generously overstuffed with down-like fiberfill and covered in lavish chenille, Katie Puff dog beds bring luxury to a whole new level and lucky Gatsby agrees. Ria enjoys the easily removable cover. All she needs to do is unzip to clean in cold water and hang dry.

Luxury Leather Collars

Gatsby is short haired and has sensitive skin so Ria keeps him in leather dog collars of the highest quality, often handcrafted. Collars are a great way to highlight a pup’s personality, but they’re often also representative of the owner’s preferences. Ria is a huge fan of decorated leather collars, so Gatsby is always adorned in turquoise stones or metal embellishments, making him all the more handsome.

Turquoise on Chocolate Leather Dog Collar

Belmont Raised Bowl

Belmont Elevated Dog BowlIf you haven’t noticed already, Gatsby is living a life of luxury, so of course he dines in style too. Since he’s taller in stature, Ria knew the importance of investing in an elevated dog feeder. Raised feeders are recommended by veterinarians to help prevent pups from gulping down their food, which reduces air intake and the possibility of bloat and gas. Being a sophisticated pup, Gatsby dines in a Belmont Elevated Dog Bowl.

What keeps your pup wagging?
