National Adopt a Shelter Dog Day

Adopt A Dog

You’ve probably noticed that we enjoy ever opportunity to spread the word about adoptions, and tomorrow, being National Adopt a Shelter Dog Day, is another great opportunity to tug on hound-loving heartstrings.

Are you in the market for a furry addition to your family, or know someone who is? This special day may be just the push needed. Finding unconditional love in a four-legged friend is a special, unique bond, and when that pet comes from a shelter, there are many additional benefits for all involved.

Adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue group means you’ll save a life, find a healthy pet, save money, help in the fight against puppy mills and pet stores, and feel great about your choice! A while back we posted some excellent tips on how to get started with the adoption process, all important things to consider.

Save A Life

If you live near one of our Southern California Muttropolis store locations stop by an upcoming adoption event. We host multiple adoptions each month that have proven to be a fantastic way to find forever homes for pets in need. Visit us on Facebook to see the dates and times for upcoming adoption events near you.

Ways to Reduce Carbon Pawprints

Puppy WorldHappy Earth Day everyone! Here at Muttropolis we strive to have a pulse on what’s innovative, and eco-friendly pet products are just that! Organic dog toys, collars and leashes, biodegradable poop bags, and eco-friendly pet beds, are just a few of the many planet friendly pet products we are proud to carry. In celebration of Earth Day, we’d like to take it a step further and share some of our favorite eco-friendly pet practices. It's our hope that you and your pets will join us in reducing carbon pawprints by adopting some of these practices, not only on Earth Day, but everyday!

100% NaturalGet rid of pet junk food. Since nutrition is essential for optimum pet health, it's important to look for natural and organic pet food and treats, free of artificial and genetically engineered ingredients and additives. Look for meat sources that are raised in sustainable, humane conditions. Many pet food brands include reconstituted animal by-products, essentially low-grade wastes that humans wouldn’t touch, let alone eat. At Muttropolis, we carry a large variety of safe, All Natural Dog Food, All Natural Dog Treats, Natural Dog Supplements, and a small assortment of All Natural Cat Food and Treats as well.

PoopbagsPick up poop the biodegradable way.
Use biodegradable bags to pick up your pet’s poop so that it doesn’t live in a plastic bag at the bottom of a landfill, lasting for hundreds of years to come. We carry eco-friendly poop pick-up bags, some more so than others, with White Compostable Pick-up Bags at the top of the environmentally friendly list. They are made from 100% renewable resources, protecting the environment by degrading in as little as 40 days.

Spoil your pet with sustainable products. Saving the planet can be fun for your pets too! Choose products that are made from recycled materials or sustainable fibers. Hemp is a great choice, as it is one of the most abundantly occurring crops in nature and makes super-strong fabric. Check out our Hemp Star Dog Collar and Leash set that was seen on the CBS Early Show, or the popular Eco Nap Recycled Fleece Dog Mat, made from 85% recycled plastic soda bottles! Our sustainable product assortment doesn’t stop there, with many more toys and beds that are made from recyclable fibers, or made to be recycled.

Eco Nap Recycled Fleece Dog MatChoose natural pet care and cleaning products. We carry quite a few grooming products that are all natural and free of harsh chemicals, such as Richard’s Organics Deodorant Dog Shampoo and Petkin’s Eco Bamboo Pet Wipes and Eye Wipes, all gentle on your pet and the planet. Steer clear of those brands that produce chemical laced grooming products.

Make sure your pet always wears a tag. Losing a pet can be trying both emotionally and environmentally. Printing posters and driving around town in search of your missing four-legged friend has an environmental impact that could be avoided if you were alerted quickly that they were found. Whether you choose an electronic ID chip or a hang tag, the important thing is that your contact information is easily accessible. Our large Engravable Pet Tag assortment can be found at Muttropolis.com,  Large Chrome Bone Engravable Dog Tagand includes Chrome Pet Tags in a variety of shapes, Stainless Steel Pet Tags with different image and color options, and Decorate Metal Pet Tags. There is a style and size suitable for every pet!

ChickadeeProtect native wildlife. Believe it or not, domestic cats are one of the biggest bird predators. In fact, many neighborhoods require owners to attach a bell to their cat’s collar so that birds are less likely to fall victim. Unlike wild predators, house cats tend to be well taken care of and in great shape, making them ready to pounce at the chance to hunt. If you have an outdoor cat, consider a bell or keeping them in an enclosure.

Use birth control. Many of you probably haven’t thought of spaying and neutering as an eco-conscious decision, but the overpopulation of pets is a big problem and has a significant effect on the environment. Dogs and cats are carnivores and it takes a lot of land to provide them food. It makes you think differently about an accidental litter, doesn’t it? An added bonus, spaying and neutering can lead to longer, healthier lives by lessening and/or eliminating the possibility of certain cancers and disease.

Adopt from a shelter. If you’re in the market for a four-legged addition to your family, we urge you to consider adoption. Instead of diving into the adoption topic in this post, please head over to our adoption post where you can learn more about adoptions and our point of view on the matter.

Adoption

Now is as good a time as ever to start reducing your pet’s carbon pawprints! Visit us online or in one of our three Southern California store locations to shop our eco-friendly collection and learn more about planet friendly pet practices.

You may meet a new furry friend to make family! And if you aren’t in the area but are looking for a new pet, we urge you to adopt and save a life.

October is National Adopt-A-Dog Month!

Adopt-A-Dog Month

The best way to honor Adopt-A-Dog
Month
is by adopting a dog in need! Choose a pup from a shelter or rescue
group and you’ll save a life, save money, find a healthy pet, help in the fight
against puppy mills and pet stores, and feel better! A while back we posted some
excellent tips on how to get started,
and choosing the right pet.

Live near a Muttropolis store? Then you’re in luck! For the
month of October, we’ll be hosting
multiple adoptions
every weekend in each of our three Southern
California stores. We’ve included the dates and times for each of
these adoptions below. As a congratulations and thank you, we’ll be providing
every dog that is adopted at one of our events with a Muttropolis “wag bag,”
filled with goodies to enjoy with their new family.

Save A LifeAs some of you may know, Muttropolis is an “Animal Admirer”
for the San Diego Humane Society.
We’ve already admired two pups that have found loving homes, and recently
received our newest animal to admire, Huxley. He’s a male American Pit Bull Terrier
Mix, a staff favorite, and extremely smart after having undergone extensive
training for etiquette, housetraining and tricks. He loves to perform
and thrives in active, athletic environments like the dog park. Huxley is just
over 7 years old and neutered. For more information about handsome Huxley and
the adoption process at the San Diego Humane Society, visit his profile. The video of him showing off his skills will
win you over right away!Huxley is featured in many of the images below.

No matter how you choose to adopt, whether from a shelter,
rescue group, or someone you know, there is one thing we know for sure,
every
dog "can't wag without"

these
essentials:

Collar & Leash

Essentials
for safety, and don’t forget a personalized tag!

Dog CollarEvery dog needs a collar
and leash for walks, to hold their identification tag(s), and to show of their
personal style! Our wide collar assortment includes color, fabric and style
options for each and every canine customer, most with coordinating leashes. And
to keep your pup safe in the unfortunate event that they ever get lost, an
engravable tag is a must-have too. We have over 100 one-of-a-kind styles to
choose from!

Bed

Whether they
like to snuggle up or stretch out!

Dog BedLet’s face it, dogs
sleep a lot, so having a comfortable, well-crafted bed is something each
four-legged fur ball should have. We carry all of the top selling designer and
luxury dog beds included square bolstered, donut, double donut, pillow,
outdoor, mats, blankets, duvets and more! Options to accommodate every pup’s
sleeping preferences and home décor.

Bowls or Feeders

For
feasting, one of their favorite times of the day!

Raised Dog FeederWe believe that dogs should
dine in style. To accommodate for differing design preferences, we have classic
ceramic bowls, sleek stainless steel feeders, contemporary wooden designs, and
much more! Why do we love raised feeders? With their elevated ergonomic design,
they aid in digestion, preventing pups from eating too quickly and suffering
from the uncomfortable side-effects.

Toys

Plush,
rubber, tough, interactive, there are toys for every pup’s playing preferences!

Dog ToysToys are like good
friends, the more the merrier! We have unique toys for pup’s that love plush,
enjoy playing fetch, need something interactive to eliminate boredom, or play
so hard they need a toy build tough! Keep your new addition entertained and
you’re sure to have a much easier transition and happier pup.

Training Tools

Essentials
when bringing a new pup home!

Training ToolsA well trained dog is
a happy dog, so be sure to stay in control when you bring your new pup home. Effective
dog training tools that are safe and humane make this much easier! Dog crates, training collars, no-pull harnesses, potty pads and anti-bark
products, can all be lifesavers in establishing a safe and secure environment.

Treats

Great for
nutrition, training, and the obvious… rewarding!

Stella & Chewy's Carnivore CrunchKeep it all-natural!
We have done the research on dog nutrition so that you don’t have to. All of
our treats are all-natural, easily digestible, preservative-free, wholesome and
delicious. And best of all, each month we offer a special promotion on a Treat
of the Month
, this month it is Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried dog treats.

Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon

We’re

on Sunday, September 8th at the Del Mar
Dog Beach! This event is primarily a surf competition for dogs that raises
funds for orphaned animals
at Helen
Woodward Animal
Center, but there will
also be bunches of other activities for all attendees to participate in. Festivities
kick-off at 8AM and run until 2PM.

Surf Dog is
a fantastic opportunity for friends, family and dogs to come together for a day
of fun, sun and surf, all to benefit beloved animals. Two-legged and
four-legged attendees can choose to either hit the waves and participate in the
surf competition or watch the action from the beach where there will be games,
a costume contest, food and more. There is a $35 fee for dogs to participate in
the surf competition and $35 fee for people. To participate in the Beach Bum
Costume Contest there is a $10 donation.

Judy
Fridono, a Top Surf Dog Fundraiser shared that “Although some see this event as
a competition, the animals awaiting their fate see us as their last chance at
survival… It’s as easy as asking your family, friends, and co-workers to donate
at least a buck. It’s as easy as posting a request on Facebook, Twitter and
other social media!” For more information about Surf Dog and the ways to get
involved, visit www.surfdog.kintera.org.

We’ll be
partnering with Ruffwear at the event, selling performance dog gear
built to enhance outdoor adventures for dogs and humans. On Saturday September
7th, the day before Surf Dog, Ruffwear will also be visiting our Solana Beach
store where they’ll be showcasing their merchandise from 10AM – 4PM.

Muttropolis Partners with KUSI & Holly’s Garden to Treat Your Dog for National Dog Day

Awesome Being A Dog

We're happy to announce that we'll be joining KUSI's Sandie Lampe, with rescue pups from Holly's Garden Rescue, on Monday, August 26th for National Dog Day. A celebration of
"the dog
," National Dog Day is an
annual event created to raise awareness about the thousands of dogs in need of
forever homes as well as to honor those dogs that bring so much joy to our
lives.

To honor these pups, Monday’s segment will
focus on giving dogs something they love. Most dogs would agree that resting in a cozy bed or the
opportunity to travel with their owner are preferred ways to pass time. We have
a vast array of products across categories, including essentials to make these
loved activities even more enjoyable, and with the holidays fast approaching,
National Dog Day is a good reminder that it’s never too early to start shopping
for your four-legged family members.

Our bedding assortment ranges from innovative
and eco-friendly
dog bed duvet covers that allow you
the freedom to regularly swap out your pet’s bedding effortlessly and affordably,
to luxuriously overstuffed and bolstered designer dog beds. The options are nearly endless, with beds to
suite every owner’s style preference, dog’s sleeping style, and complement
differing home décors.

For avid four-legged travelers, we have car
seats, handbag and luggage style carriers
, along with many other travel
essentials. Whether it’s a cross-country adventure or a quick trip to the
beach, a car seat provides your pup with a comfortable place of their own and a
much better view of the scenery. Easy to install and covered in cozy,
machine-washable fabrics like micro-fiber or sherpa, they are a must-have for canines that like to cruise around.

So whether it’s snoozing comfortably,
traveling safely, or something entirely different that sparks your pup’s
attention, National Dog Day is the perfect time to celebrate and reward them
for their extraordinary companionship, and Muttropolis is the perfect
pup-spoiling headquarters!

Tune in to KUSI at 9:00 AM on Monday, August
26th to meet the adorable
and adoptable pups
from Holly's Garden and
learn more about what dogs love. Each dog featured on the show that is adopted
will receive a "Muttropolis Wag Bag" including toys, treats and
exclusive offers from Muttropolis.

Meet Simon, We Admire Him!

We’re very pleased to be an
“Animal Admirer” for the San Diego Humane Society. Simon is a sweet, senior beagle mix pup with an inquisitive nature
and an adorable personality! Simon is the second pup that we’ve admired so far
and we plan to continue to admire many more pets to come.

Simon(1)If we were to describe Simon
in three words, it would be mellow, intelligent and chatty! He has plenty of
energy for his age, just over 14 years, so that shouldn’t be a discouraging
factor. In fact, there are many benefits to adopting a senior pet. Simon has
already developed his personality and he isn’t in need of a whole bunch of
training, especially since he’s very easy going. He’s very social with people
and other pets, cats included, but can also hold his own when he has to spend
some time alone. We feel that Simon would do best in a home that compliments
his laid back ways, so if there are children in the family, we recommend they
are 8 years of age or older.

Where can you find this adorable
Simon? He’s currently located at the San Diego Humane Society in Oceanside at 5500 Gaines Street.
If you’re interested in
adopting Simon, or may know someone else who is, it would only cost a small
adoption fee of $25.00. Simon’s current
vaccinations, permanent microchip identification, a certificate for a free
veterinary exam, a gift from Hill’s Science Diet, and a license if residing in Oceanside or Vista are
all included with the adoption!

For more information visit Simon’s profile on the San
Diego Humane Society’s website. Simon’s animal ID number is 120023, which
you’ll want to reference when you go to visit him. Help us find Simon a
forever home!

For more up-to-date
information on the animals we’re admiring, follow us on Facebook.
