MUTT’S HAPPENING: Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Take Your Dog to Work Day is just a few days away on Friday, June 23rd – are you ready?! Taking your four-legged best friend to work may be one of the best things ever, but you need to make sure you are prepared. Here are some ideas on how to keep your pooch happy while they’re at the office:

  1. Bring familiar items to the office with you. When bringing your dog to work, bring Bowser’s favorite bed or blanket. Not only will this give your pooch a comfy place to rest while you work, but the familiar scent will help calm Bowser down in an unfamiliar place.
  2. Keep them preoccupied. Whether it be a long-lasting chew or a toy, having something your dog can preoccupy themselves with while you’re working is key. The dogs at Mutt HQ LOVE the Earth Animal Dog Chews, as they are not only long-lasting, but they are packed with flavor!
  3. Make sure they are nice and clean! A clean dog is a happy dog, and your co-workers will be happy to love on a clean dog, too! Treat your pup to a bath or give them a fresh scent with some Buddy Splash deodorizer so they are ready to take on their big office debut.
  4. Treat yourself to our Yappy Hour when the day is over! Stop by our Solana Beach store on Friday, June 23rd from 4-6PM for a special Take Your Dog to Work Day Yappy Hour! Sydnee’s Grooming will be on site offering grooming services, we’ll have refreshments for both you and your dog, and our friends at Helen Woodward will be accepting food donations! You won’t want to miss this fun event full of playing and socialization!

MUTT’S UP: 5 Ways to Spoil Your Furry Valentine

Girl Holding Dog at the Park in Summer

Valentine’s Day is near, which makes us ask the question: who’s your valentine this year? Ours (naturally) are our four-legged friends, our pets! Valentine’s Day is a way to show our loved ones how much we care about them, and we thought of five different ways to spoil your pup this Valentine season:

1. Snuggle it up. If you told us that a dog didn’t like a hug, we’d call you a liar. On Valentine’s Day, give your pup extra hugs, kisses and snuggles – after all, dogs are the most loving animals!

2. Take Bowser for a trip. Whether it be the dog park, an extended walk in the neighborhood or a road trip, give your dog the gift of excitement and fun of an adventure!

3. Hook your pup up with treats. When humans exchange Valentines, there’s normally some sort of candy involved – why not give your pup their own candy?! Spoil Bowser with treats today!

4. Take your pooch out to dinner. There’s nothing like a date night with your dog! There are tons of dog-friendly restaurants (especially in San Diego!) that even offer a special menu for your pooch!

5. Score some goods from the Valentine’s Collection. Whether it be a heart-filled sweater or a cute heart-eye emoji toy, there’s something for every furry Valentine!

We hope these ideas help you celebrate your best Valentine’s yet with your pooch!

Did you know that Take Your Dog to Work Day is this Friday, June 24th? Although it’s hard for us to believe that people can’t take their dogs to work every day (we’re lucky enough to be able to!), we’re excited that others will be able to experience having a dog in the workplace. Here’s a list of reasons why dogs are so great to have in the office:

  1. They’re therapeutic. There are therapy dogs for a reason! Dogs bring comfort, especially when one is feeling stressed. All you have to do is give some love to a dog to make your day better than it was!
  2. They’re entertaining. Glance over at a dog and they’re guaranteed to make you laugh or smile. It’s worth taking your eyes off of your computer for a minute!
  3. They give you a reason to go outside. Dogs have to go for a walk and go to the bathroom, which is a great way for you to get out of your office and enjoy some fresh air. It’s relaxing!
  4. They’re out of the house. How much guilt do you feel when you have to leave your dog for work? We do when we don’t bring them to the office. Bringing them to work not only relieves your stress, but relieves theirs from being at home anxiously waiting for you to get back!
  5. They get to explore new surroundings. When dogs go to a new place, they’re excited because of all the new smells! They sometimes can get a little frightened at the beginning, so make sure to keep them comfortable. We recommend bringing a mat or a favorite toy of theirs that smells like home.

We encourage everyone to bring their dog to work this Friday. If you do, make sure to share your pictures with us on Facebook or tag us on Instagram (@muttropolis)!

MUTT LIFE: What we’re thankful for

The season of giving is meant to be a time to reflect on all of the things we are thankful for in our lives. We at Muttropolis are especially thankful for our furry, four-legged family members. Why are we so thankful for them? Here’s a list of just a few things:

1. We are thankful for their cuddles. Dog cuddles are they best cuddles – why? Because they’re just so dang cuddly!!!

2. We are thankful for how they wait for us at the door. Whether we’ve been at work all day or just ran to the post office, we love seeing our sweet pups at the door anxiously awaiting our arrival.

3. We are thankful for the extra love they give us when we need it. Days can be rough, but always knowing that your dog will give you unconditional love no matter what the situation can make any bad day so much better.

4. We are thankful that they keep us active. Dogs need exercise just as much as humans do! Not only can a good walk help you and your pup, but it allows you to be able to get some fresh air that is sure to relieve any stress you may have!

5. We are thankful that they are loyal. Dogs will never judge you or hate you and will always love you unconditionally. They are the true definition of loyal.

Happy National Mutt Day!

Today is one of our favorite holidays – National Mutt Day! This special holiday has an interesting history: it was founded by dog lover and philanthropist Colleen Page in 2005 and is celebrated twice a year (today and December 2nd). National Mutt Day is a day for embracing, saving and celebrating all types of mixed breed dogs. Want to celebrate this day dedicated to Mutts? Here are a few ideas: take your pup to the park, spoil them by getting them a pupcake, or, if you’re in the Newport Beach area, stop by our Fashion Island store at 7PM for a National Mutt Day Celebration!

In honor of Mutts near and far, here’s a little Mutt 101 from us to you:

Take Your Dog to Work Day Done Right in Four Easy Steps

EditorSandy-thumb-608x482-23952

Numerous studies show that having a pet makes you happier and can even add years to your life.  We at Muttropolis know this, which is why we ALWAYS bring our dogs to work! There are endless positive paw-sabilities (har-har) to having a dog in the workplace, too – the International Journal of Workplace Health Management says that furry friends in the office can lead to lower stress levels among employees and boost morale. We love having our dogs in the office and frequently take breaks from staring at our computer screens to not only walk them, but pet them and kiss them as much as we can!

Take Your Dog to Work Day is celebrating its 15th year this Friday, June 20th, so why not bring your pup to the workplace? Here’s some tips to help you get the most out of Take Your Dog to Work Day:

1.       Create a Hospitable Environment

Everyone loves pets, but forewarning fellow employees of your plans of bringing your pup to work is always important, just in case someone has a pet allergy or you have any workers that are uncomfortable with the idea of having animals in the office. Once your plans are set, make sure to check out your office area, including:

  • Finding green space nearby for your pup to go to the bathroom (this is REALLY important – no one wants to have an accident on the work carpet!)
  • Bathing and grooming your pup before their debut, perhaps even dressing up your pup with designer dog collars or stylish dog apparel – why not!?
  • Eliminating or securing hazards such as poisonous plants, cleaners and electrical cords

2.       Bring a Doggie Bag

Just as you pack your lunch, be sure to bring all the necessary items for your dog. Food, treats, toys, poop bags and a leash are must-haves for the big day.

3.       Create a Comfort Zone

Make sure your work space if comfortable enough for your Bowser. To get your dog to love your work space, try to bring a bit of home to your office. Bringing a dog bed will make your dog feel like they’re at home!

4.       Plan an Exit Strategy

Accidents tend to happen – that’s okay! Make sure to bring pet-friendly disinfectant just in case an accidents occur. You may want to be prepared to take your dog home just in case he’s not comfy in the office space. Discuss plans with a manager ahead of time to ensure you will be able to take your dog home if you need to.

Take Your Dog to Work Day is a great way to introduce your co-workers to your furry best friend! By taking these few steps, you can ensure the day goes smoothly. This 9-Year-Old Built a Nonprofit, No-Kill Animal Shelter Out of His Garage to Help Stray Animals.

This story is truly inspiring. Ken, a 9 year old from the Philippines, wanted to help local stray dogs and cats in his neighborhood and creating a safe place for them to live in was his dream. That dream came sooner than expected, when pictures of Ken feeding some stray animals floated around the internet. Once people saw this picture, they donated money to Ken and he was able to raise enough money to pay for quality food, vet bills and lease a space for a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. Ken is an inspiration to all of us and we are proud of him and all that he continues to do. Go Ken!
